Brent Staples Essay
In the beginning of the story as I started to read I started to identify the author as a type of person to start trouble and tamper with women as the women are on their destinations, I identified the first victim which in the beginning of the story I thought was the woman to be scared because it was night time and it was a dark street and she was alone. As I continued reading the story I started to realize and understand that the author was just a regular human being going home as well not wanting any trouble with anybody, and most of all not trying to start trouble with anybody. The more I read the story the more I began to get a little upset but more interested in the story because the author was a typical person trying to get home like any regular person at night after working or going to school. The fact that the author was a tall African American male people thought of him to be a rapist, murderer, or some type of trouble maker, in reality the author was a college student just walking down the street minding his own business not bothering anybody. The story had a little bit of an impact on me because it doesn't matter where you are or what you do if your;e an African American regardless of your sex, different races are going to treat all blacks the same, like all blacks are all rapists, murderers, and trouble makers and thats not true. I have learned to really respect all of the African Americans that have made it some what easy for us blacks today. Now that I am older and I have learned alot growing up no matter where you are or what you do people are still racist in the world today, and blacks are still considered rapists, murderers, etc in the world. I have experienced some racism towards me but I have learned to let it go because people are ignorant and they are going t0 think what they want to think anyway.
